In my opinion, it's because folks think that celebrities live far more glamourous lives than they do. In reality, celebs probably think their lives are as boring as we think our lives are.
Think about it. Sure, they have more money to spend on stuff, and they most likely have other people do their grocery shopping for them so that they don't get mobbed by fans, but they are still people. They still sleep, they still go to the bathroom, they still bathe, and they still get bored.
My point is that people tend to think that their lives are rather dull and project how they want their life to be on the rich and famous.
